- On November 15, City Council passed an ordinance to rezone the Airport Inn property for Urban General Commercial Zone. The rezoning is legally required to convert the motel into a permanent supportive housing complex. Why? Because of the way the rules are written, permanent housing at the same level of density as a motel requires a different zone. If the property was not rezoned, it could not become any type of permanent housing.
- With City Council approval of the rezoning of the property, the City has moved forward with the development of a request for proposals (RFP) for a contractor to renovate the building and a service provider to manage and staff the facility.
- The City hosted two community roundtable meetings, structured as working sessions to solicit ideas for the draft RFP. The meetings were held on November 30 from 2 - 3 pm, and December 14 from 6 - 7 pm at Shepherd Hills Community Center. All residents are welcome to attend.
- A summary of input received during the roundtables is available here. City Council approved the issuance of an RFP on January 17, 2023.
- The City of Chattanooga drafted and issued a Contract with the Community, a set of promises addressing concerns voiced during the community input period.
