ABOUT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
National Night Out was established in 1984 with funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice. The program was developed as a crime prevention initiative that emphasizes building a partnership between the police and the community. National Night Out takes place in more than 16,000 communities throughout the country. Many police departments host events in August. The first Tuesday in October is an alternative date the National Association of Town Watch - the organization that developed the National Night Out campaign - set for events.
