"The Chattanooga Police Department is grateful for the assistance we've received from our area law enforcement partners in the search for the suspect who killed Officer Nicholas Galinger," said David Roddy. "We also appreciate the outpouring of support we've received and continue to receive from members of our community."
Attached is a photo of Nicholas provided for media use from the Galinger family. Funeral arrangements for Ofc. Galinger are pending and when finalized will be posted on the Chattanooga Police Department's Facebook page.
UPDATE (2/24/19):
On Sunday, February 24, 2019, CPD Officers located a vehicle at 207 Port Avenue, Hixson matching the description of the Honda CRV that struck and killed Chattanooga Police Officer Nicholas Galinger. With assistance from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office and Hamilton County District Attorney's Office, warrants were obtained to search the vehicle and the residence where the vehicle was located. The registered owner of the vehicle was not located.
Officer Nicholas Galinger succumbed to the injuries sustained in the hit and run incident that occurred on Saturday, February 23, 2019 on Hamill Road in Hixson, TN.

On February 23, 2019 at approximately 11:04 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department Traffic Division responded to the 2900 block of Hamill Road on a Pedestrian Struck Officer Involved call. The following was determined through interview, investigation, and observation:
- CPD Officer was out of the patrol vehicle inspecting a manhole cover that had water flowing from it
- A vehicle traveling northbound on Hamill Rd struck the Officer and fled the scene
- Vehicle description: 2017/2018 Honda CRV with heavy front-end damage
- Officer transported to a local hospital via Hamilton County EMS with life-threatening injuries
- Investigation is ongoing and proceeding in a logical manner
