2-5-19 Three men arrested for 2016 Attempted Murder
On July 4, 2016, Chattanooga Police responded to a local hospital after a female showed up with a life-threatening gunshot wound. The Chattanooga Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit began a thorough and extensive investigation that ultimately resulted in the Hamilton County Grand Jury indictments on Watkins, Norris, and Fuqua on January 28, 2019.
On February 4, 2019, Officers in the Chattanooga Police Department’s Gun Team, Street Crimes Unit, and SWAT along with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office assisted the U.S. Marshals and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) with a warrant service at a home in the 4500 block of Norcross Road. Antonio Watkins was taken into custody without incident. Also on February 4, 2019, members of the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) Street Crimes Unit located Lejuane Norris at a residence on Water Street. He was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants.
On February 5, 2019, a collaboration between the CPD Street Crimes Unit, U.S. Marshals, and Rossville Police Department resulted in a traffic stop on Dequan Fuqua on Chickamauga Avenue in Walker County, Georgia. Fuqua was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants. He is currently in custody in Walker County awaiting extradition.
“I cannot speak highly enough of the Chattanooga Police Officers and Investigators who’ve worked relentlessly for more than two years to ensure the suspects in this heinous act of violence were taken off the streets of our community,” said Chief David Roddy. “The assistance we received from local and federal law enforcement agencies ensures the safety of community members is a top priority, not just in Chattanooga, but also in surrounding areas.”
